Getting To Know Me
I have been drawing since the dawn of time. Those animal sketches on the cave walls in France? That was probably me. Woodcuts from Renaissance Italy, . . . okay, not quite, but there are days when it feels like it.
My first professional illustrations were done while I was still in high school, anatomical studies and nature prints. I eventually developed a style that was more comic book oriented and for awhile did some character design work for a few local comic stores and a number of D&D events and magazines around the city. At the time there wasn't a lot of call for illustrators in Edmonton so I began applying to the local Ad Agencies, but because I was self taught all I ever got was the occasional freelance work.
In 1989 I graduated from the GMCC Visual Communications program, majoring in Graphic Design. Eventually I partnered in a small ad agency in the early 90's before moving on as the Art Director of a growing print shop. That led to another Art Director job which in turn led to my becoming the Creative Director of a large screen printing shop. If your kids were wearing shirts their teachers wouldn't approve of . . . sorry about that. When that company decided to redirect its focus to a less artistic line I returned to my freelance career and have never looked back. I continue to work for many of those companies today as their on-call freelance artist.
I now spend my time working for my own clients and have complete control over which jobs are a priority. I am often able to turn most jobs around within 48 hours, something that could never happen in a corporate environment. I work and play from my home studio in Edmonton, Alberta and have been known to muralize entire rooms just for fun.
When I'm not sketching, illustrating, or designing I love spending time with my incredibly adorable wife Susan, our kids, and our new granddaughter. I also enjoy TV, Movies, Blues, Jazz, World of Warcraft and a tall cold pint of ale with friends. If you feel that I can offer the services your company needs, or you're just looking for someone with which to raise a pint, please contact me at [email protected]
